A rubber wiper seal is a protective component used in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders to prevent contaminants like dust, dirt, and moisture from entering the system by wiping them off a moving rod as it retracts. These seals are typically made from durable materials like nitrile rubber (NBR) or polyurethane, and they are essential for protecting internal components, extending equipment life, and maintaining system performance, especially in harsh environments.  Key features and function

• Wiping action: The seal's rubber lip maintains contact with the cylinder rod, scraping away debris as the rod moves back into the cylinder. 
• Contaminant prevention: It acts as a barrier, preventing external contaminants from reaching and damaging internal components such as the rod, cylinder walls, and primary seals. 
• Material: Commonly made from flexible and abrasion-resistant rubber compounds like nitrile rubber (NBR) or polyurethane (PU). Some high-performance variants are made from materials like fluorocarbon (FKM) for high-temperature and chemical resistance. 
• Dual-structure design: Some wiper seals have a metal case for added rigidity and support, combined with an inner rubber lip for the wiping function. 
• Pressure relief: Some designs, like those with a slotted heel, feature an opening that prevents pressure build-up between the wiper seal and the rod seal, which could otherwise cause seal failure.
